Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership & Management (Future Leaders)

 Maynooth University Department of Education is offering an exciting and innovative Postgraduate Diploma

in Educational Leadership & Management (Future Leaders) for teachers at all levels who seek, or are currently

in, leadership roles.

The Future Leaders programme includes a combination of practical skills and theoretical foundations to support preparation for leadership and management positions at all levels. The programme is designed & delivered by experienced leaders from a variety of professional education roles and has input from national and international academic/practitioner experts in the areas of educational leadership and management.

 

WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?

 Building professional, leadership competencies & skills in an educational setting.

 Developing an understanding of personal strengths, attributes & values as ethical leaders.

 Exploring ranges of leadership models guided by academic theory and applications to practice.

 Introduction to practices of mentoring and coaching as core leadership competencies.

 Engaging in professional conversations & collaborative research to enhance leadership potential.

 Exploring the skills & strengths of leading people to discover how leaders implement change & innovation.

 Providing a critical understanding of the legal framework that applies to education and its impact on policy & practice.

WHAT ARE THE CAREER OPTIONS?

This Postgraduate Diploma is suitable for teachers who seek, or are currently in, leadership/management roles and who wish to progress their careers in this regard.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

(a) Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.

(b) A teaching qualification or equivalent qualifications as appropriate to the applicant’s field. (In the absence of a teaching qualification, proof of current full registration with the Teaching Council showing the years of qualification may be considered).

(c) A minimum of 3 years full time, qualified teaching experience.

In order to be prepared to make an official application via the Postgraduate Application Centre (PAC), please have the following documents ready:

Þ Copies of all official transcripts of results showing date of conferral or degree/diploma parchments (Concurrent Degree, or Primary Degree and Teaching Qualification). Please ensure that the documents supplied clearly indicate 3 years since qualification as a teacher.

Þ Copy of birth certificate or valid passport.

Þ Names and contact information of two referees.

 

PROGRAMME DETAILS - WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The Diploma is offered at Level 9 with 60 credits and will be completed over one year on a part-time basis commencing in September 2019.

Modules include:

 Leading and Managing Educational Innovation

 Leadership for Enhancing Cultures of

Communication

 Participative Research as Leadership Practice

 The Person and The Professional: Who am I as Leader?

 Legal Contexts, Policy and Practice

 Coaching and Mentoring in and as Leadership Practice

 

COURSE ASSIGNMENT STRUCTURE:

  • Continuous Assessment with formative feedback and indicative grades throughout the year.

  • Variety of assessment methodologies with a focus on the skills and attributes needed by school leaders.

ACCREDITATION:

The PGDELM qualification is a nationally and internationally recognised qualification from the National University of Ireland. It is a 60 credit, level 9 (Postgraduate Diploma) on the National Framework of Qualification.

 Ensure you select your centre of choice from the drop down menu when making your application.

 Places on the programme will be limited. In the event of significant over subscription of completed & eligible applications: a) additional centres may be offered or b) applicants will be offered a place on the programme for academic year 2020-21.
