Title: SLASH PALETTE Appreciating contemporary art in the digital age as a tool for teaching in primary school
Description: They've done the finger painting and the proverbial lolly pop sculptures, They've made mountains of collages and more models than you'd fit in the city's car parks.Their brush technique's not bad and they're actually very adventurous with charcoal, pen & ink But has it brought you or your class any closer to appreciating contemporary art and galleries?

Workshop Objectives:
By the end of the two hour workshop, teachers will be able to
  1. Define by illustrative examples the world of contemporary art
  2. Identify contemporary art as it's woven into all facets of our lives through design & nature
  3. Make a piece of contemporary art individually and in collaboration with other participants
  4. Develop a personal critique of 4 examples of contemporary art using audio, video & 2D and experience school children' reactions to contemporary art pieces and gallery spaces
  5. Fix an appointment with a Galway based contemporary artist to visit their studio
